Wildlife

LoonsDue to its remote and unspoiled location in the Canadian wilderness, Uchi Lake is home to numerous animals and several species of waterfowl. You’ll be ringside in your Lund boat, watching bald eagles swoop gracefully to the water to grab a baitfish that wandered too close to the surface.

Bald EaglesIt’s not unusual to see moose and calves feeding on aquatic plants back in the bays any time of day. You may even see caribou, as they pass through the Uchi Lake region with great frequency.

MooseToward evening you may notice a curious V-wake headed past your boat. Uchi attracts hundreds of beavers, attested to by the plentiful huts constructed along the shores of Uchi Lake. But don’t be alarmed by the big explosion of water if the beaver is suddenly startled. When beavers retreat from danger, they will often do it with a flourish… and noisy, showy flaps of their huge tails.

DeerUchi is also home to numerous ducks and birds. And what Canadian fly-in adventure would be complete without the soothing, melodic call of the loon. Loons love the solitude of Uchi Lake and spend their summer swimming and feeding in Uchi’s pristine water. Year after year these beautiful and astonishing creatures enjoy the rare sanctuary of Uchi Lake. We hope you will too.
