Life is Sooooooo Good

I’ve been rattling on and on about the wildlife at Uchi , more so than usual. It’s just that there is so much activity going on, I feel I have to share it with you. This is one of the most unique pictures I’ve seen of a cow moose with her baby - photographed by Dave Vaughn. The same Dave that released a 29 inch walleye yesterday, then his buddy a 45 inch northern.

The Castro party also had a 45 incher on their line but it got away before getting a picture. I’m still having trouble getting my guests to post their fishing reports as the days just fly by and we run out of time. Still trying, still trying and still trying……..

Family Update

Well, well, well….after posting my last blog the partridge eggs have hatched and mom has left the nest with her babies. This is all that was left behind. You can see that two did not survive however mom has 11 to look after as it is. She won’t be far away but guaranteed she will be far enough so as to protect her young

Cheryl, Phil and Scott Hildebrand brought to my attention two more additions to the Uchi Family. Here is another picture of eggs but this time their loon eggs - look closely to see the nest tucked under the shrubs.

Loon Eggs

So much excitement on Uchi Lake this year. Cheryl was lucky enough to capture a cow moose with her calf following closely behind as they exit the lake.

And mother partridge was just spotted by Walt as they waddled past his cabin. Walt is a darn good photographer so I anticipate receiving some nice pics of them throughout this week.

Addition to the Uchi Family

Nestled in the bush beside cabin #4 is a mother partrige sitting on her nest protecting her 11 small eggs. She’s been on the nest for roughly 2 weeks now. Every once in a while we silently go down to see if there is any progress made. She doesn’t even flinch, not a feather moves. We are quite excited to see her babies successfully join the rest of the world. It should be any day now.

Our second family addition is a nest of chicks conveniently or not so conveniently tucked away in our minnow shed. You can bet that mom and dad stay very close and get pretty excited whenever we enter the shed. The chicks are just getting feathers now but still too young to do anything on their own. Larry was careful when taking the picture of their nest, after all, the parents of the chicks have claimed the shed as “their home” for the time being.

Paradise

“This is definitely paradise” quoted from Jay, a guest who has fished Uchi Lake for 30 years. Jay and I sat in the lodge porch enjoying a hot cup of coffee and I asked him to compare the fishing on Uchi from then until now. He and his group of friends/family were unanimous that the fishing has gotten plenty better. Now that’s a testimony and I am extremely proud that I have had the privilege in taking part to protect such a jewel of a fishery.

We have a couple of new groups in camp who are a delight to be around, enjoying the hospitality, the serene mornings and getting to know the hotspots.

The Hogenson party is back and what can I say? They brighten the room with their many jokes and laughter, kidding one another constantly. They’re having no problems catching fish as I see mark has released a 27 inch walleye which is posted on the Wall of Fame.

Shorelunch is just over as I sit here gazing out the window watching the gulls surround the camp boat, on its way back to camp. Must get some work done before dinner hour.

MARCH HAS ARRIVED

Yes, I said it. March is here, weather is beautiful and the snow is melting ( a little)!!

So what did you think about the game this past Sunday. That was quite a goal the US made on Canada in the final seconds of the third period. Actually it was quite a game overall and being Canadian eh, I sure found it exciting to watch. Congrats goes to both teams!!!! I just have to say it …..Go….Canada……Go. It’s the patriotism in me.

Enough said, the Olympics are over and as enjoyable as the events were, they are still not comparable to FISHING. Most weeks have been booked but I still have a few spots so don’t delay in contacting me as our phone lines and email are open 24/7 for your convenience.

I got out for a little ice fishing for walleye, here on the local lakes this weekend - not a bite. It didn’t matter though, keeping company with great friends and the sheer privilege of enjoying our great Canadian outdoors was all I needed.

March will be a busy month getting ready for your visits. There’s a lot of planning and organizing to do before your arrival to ensure every detail is looked after. My famous last words…..”We not only talk the talk, but we walk the walk”.

Chilly Temps here in Sioux Lookout

Hello Everyone!!

Sportshows have been completed and back safe and sound in Sioux Lookout. Thanks to all of you who have called with new reservations. This looks like a busy season. Just can’t wait to get started.

The television show has been aired and I’ve received a copy. I’ll be sure to share it with everybody once we’re up at Uchi. I still can’t believe that Judy actually went fishing. When you see it, neither will you (ha,ha)

Just opened an account with YouTube. My website designer and I are working on submitting information so please feel free to offer your comments.

So what do you think about the Olympics - eh? It looks as if Canada and the United States are dominating the events. Hope all are enjoying the games as much as I.

Brenda is in town for a visit with family. Sure looking forward to her return to Uchi this summer. She always managed to put a smile on everybody’s face. Bertha just called and already pressuring me for fly into Uchi dates. Bless Her Heart.

Stay warm and stay tuned. Maybe next it’ll be twitter. You never know

Remember these sunsets. Oh yeh.

On the Road

Time to check in again. Having just finished the Minneapolis show and being socked in due to weather, I have time to update the blog. I see it’s not just Canada that gets bad weather.

The show was slower than I anticipated since it was held at the Convention Center however the people I spoke to were serious Canadian visitors and it was a pleasure showing off our “stuff”. Hopefully many of you will have an opportunity to visit this summer.

Off to Des Moines where the show will be held at the KJJY Radio Convention Centre from Feb. 12 to 14th.
The show hours are:
Friday - 3:00 pm to 9 pm
Saturday - 10 am to 6 pm
Sunday - 10 am to 4 pm

Please pay me a visit. Reflecting back over the years of quality fishing at Uchi Lake is the highlight of attending the sportshows. Take care and I will see you there.

Sportshow circuit

Judy at the AllCanada Show - 2009Hello everyone in the Milwaukee area. Just completed the All Canada show at Pheasant Run which was very busy this year. Four days of non stop talking about the fishing at Uchi Lake is enough to excite anybody to come fishing - too bad I don’t get a little more fishing in myself. However my priorities are looking after my guests.

GREAT NEWS - visit the website to see the new commercial I had made which will be aired throughout the United States shortly. Remember to check out the half hour show I mentioned in my previous blog.

Four days here in Milwaukee and then back to Canada for a week. Hope to visit with many of you at the All Canada Sportshows in Minneapolis at the Convention Center - Feb. 5th to 7th. Then again in Des Moines at the KJJY Radio Convention Center Feb. 12 to 14th.
