This summers “Uchi Experience” was by far the best ever. The weather was great, the fishing was better than ever and most important I had my four sons, two son-in-laws and my fishing partner and good friend Jim along to share the “Uchi Experience”. You and your crew helped to make this trip a memory to be treasured by each one of us. Bob enjoyed it the most because he caught the most fish (139) second only to me of course. More importantly he got to spend quality time with his dad and brothers, something that doesn’t happen often enough since he lives in California. All totaled we caught and released close to 800 fish. We ate like kings thanks to you and your crew. I’m looking forward to next year’s trip. Enclosed are a couple photos of my gang. If you’re asked why there’s no fish in the photos, tell them we RELEASED them. Thanks again for treating us so special, we loved it.

By now most of the 2008 newsletter should be arriving on your doorstep and hope you enjoy the information. I will be posting it soon at this site http://www.uchilake.com. It would take a newsletter ten times the size to actually mention all the great walleye and northern catches this season so obviously I had to limit the number of entries.
Overall the walleyes were the leaders and for only on reason. The majority of you like to fish walleye and enjoy eating walleye over northern pike. That
Rob, Larry, myself and two guests by the names of Brad and Bill arrived in Uchi at approx. 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 7th one day before the hunt. We spent that first day getting settled in and acquainted with one another, enjoyed a delicious rib eye steak with all the trimmings then called it a night.
Early the next morning was the first day of the hunt in Unit #4, the boats headed off in their separate directions. It wasn
It’s cold here, but wait for spring opening.

This was my first fishing experience at Uchi, or Canada for that matter.
I’ve been to the BWCA in MN many times but have never experienced near the
excellent fishing I did at Uchi. A friend and I boated well over 220 fish in
3 days! It was phenomenal. My trophies of the week were a 32″ northern and a
25″ 6+ lb walleye. (Though the guides caught a 31″ walley and a 38″
Northern).
On top of the outstanding fishing, the accomodations were great and the
staff was first rate.
An experience I’ll never, ever forget. I’ve been spoiled by Uchi, so now
have no choice but to come back. And believe me I will!!!

Stella and Mike Wheat have released 293 walleye (which include two 23 1/2) in the past three days. Depths from 5 feet to 18 feet of water has been the norm. One thing that should be mentioned is that they don
Fishing is only getting better. July 28th the Case party and Berg family arrive in Uchi. This is the second year for the Case party and the first morning they released a 29 3/4″ W, 28 1/4″, 27 1/2″, 26 1/2″ and a 24. No kidding and no lies. So we here at Uchi feel it doesn’ t get much better so must be downhill from here. However, in comes Doug for dinner braging about his 28″, 26 and 26 1/2″ walleyes. If not better, at least the fishing is consistent.
First timer Sam Berg comes back to camp before shorelunch. He just released the largest walleye of his entire life - a whopping 30″ Walleye.
Remember this is all in one week. We are fortunate to have Dave Lange and Bob Snyder with us as well. The northerns they were able to measure reached 38″, 39″ . Now their story about the estimated 44″ northern was believable however not measured. This tricky northern broke straight through the bottom of the net.
The Uchi Staff are nothing short of fantastic. They’re available at any given moment to ensure our guests at Uchi are more than well taken care of. In between greeting the boats, dishing out bait, preparing shorelunch, filleting fish, working on camp projects, keeping the grounds immaculate they sneak out the odd time for a little fishing of their own.
Mervin Smith has topped everybody so far this season with the largest walleye —–31″——-Yes, thats correct - 31″ Walleye.
Guy and Patty not so far behind with a beautiful 29″ Walleye and Patty’s 26 1/2 ” Walleye. In the northern category Patty has whipped both gentlemen with her 39″ Northern.
Still one more month in the season and the contest isn’t over yet. Will keep everybody posted.
Eisen, Kolling, Diddia and VanSwol - better known as the “Shad Rap Group” started in the mid- 1960’s with Don Eisen and Bill Kolling; the group has been coming to Canada annually ever since.
In 1988 they established a permanent traveling Shad Rap Trophy awarded to the fisherman with the highest total points for fish caught during the weekβs fishing. Points are awarded on an increasing basis - based on size beginning with a 20β walleye and a 27β northern.
After 30+ years of drive to resorts and 10 years of fly-in vacations with other outfitters, the group came to Uchi Lake for the first time in 2003. Prior to that time, the highest total points to win the Shad Rap Trophy was 32k. Since coming to Uchi Lake, the point winners have totaled 45, 90 and 89 respectively with this yearβs winner yet to be determined.
To date and our trip is not over until Thursday, June 15th our count is as follows:
Don - 29β W, 26β W
Bill - 28β W, 28β W
Ron - 28βW, 28β N
Chuck - 26β W
Tom - 24β W
Our count as of evening of June 11th ( which would be 4 days fishing ) includes 76 walleyes between 20β and 25β…………More to come……..
