Judy at the AllCanada Show - 2009Hello everyone in the Milwaukee area. Just completed the All Canada show at Pheasant Run which was very busy this year. Four days of non stop talking about the fishing at Uchi Lake is enough to excite anybody to come fishing - too bad I don’t get a little more fishing in myself. However my priorities are looking after my guests.

GREAT NEWS - visit the website to see the new commercial I had made which will be aired throughout the United States shortly. Remember to check out the half hour show I mentioned in my previous blog.

Four days here in Milwaukee and then back to Canada for a week. Hope to visit with many of you at the All Canada Sportshows in Minneapolis at the Convention Center - Feb. 5th to 7th. Then again in Des Moines at the KJJY Radio Convention Center Feb. 12 to 14th.

Hi Judy,

I just wanted to thank you for the fabulous time our group had on our moose hunt. I think all of our guys would agree that it truly was a hunt of a lifetime. We have been on a couple of other moose hunts in the last 8 years but nothing could compare with our experience at Uchi Lake. From our very first boat ride onto the lake we saw moose at seemingly every turn. Between our 5 hunters we estimate that we saw about 30 animals - bulls, cows and calves in the 3 1/2 days of actual hunting that we did. In the end we ended up filling 2 bull tags and 1 calf tag . We also missed opportunities at another bull and several calves. If we had had any cow tags we would have been filled out on the first or second day.

The accomodations at the lodge were excellent and the meals and service were outstanding. And of course the guides (Norm, Joe and Dave) were terrific. We had had previous experience with Norm McCreight so we knew what to expect with him. His knowledge and experience as a moose guide is unbelievable, and his endless humorous stories keeps everyone entertained (ask him about training tigers sometime). Thanks for agreeing to have him come and guide for us.

Our group hopes to book another hunt with you in 2 or 3 years. Hopefully we can get the same guides back again.

We look forward to seeing you again at the All Canada show in Milwaukee in January. Feel free to use any of us as a reference.

Best wishes from all of us,

Jim Nicholson

P.S. I will email some pics of our hunt separately.

My Dad and I made our annual trip up to Lake Uchi Lodge earlier this month and had a great time as always. The weather had been in the 30’s two weeks before we got there. It was nice because there were no mosquitos but the fishing was a little slower than usual the first few days.

Our presentation of choice for walleyes were mostly jigs and minnows. But this trip we casted way more that any other.

The first day we were catching tons of pike on Walmart one dollar spinnerbaits with 4” grubs of varying color.

I’ve always done well with HuskyJerks but I discovered my new favorite pattern for this lake. The Ghost pattern out performed all others. One night I caught a 26” and 23” walleye on consecutive casts using the ghost pattern.

This was the ninth time my dad and I have been up to Uchi Lake Lodge and on this trip we had the best morning ever one day. We once caught 150 walleye before lunch but the quality of fish during this particular morning made it much more memorable.

With no wind we had a little trouble finding fish for the first hour that morning. So we looked for any current we could find and remembered a small creek that was running quite quickly into the lake. We backed off creek into deeper water and could not keep the fish off of our lines.

My dad had four pike biteoffs in a row but quickly caught up. We were trying to catch fish under 18” to eat and ended up catching more than 15 walleye over 20” that morning including a 26” and two 25”s.

On our last afternoon we were barely able to get out due to thunderstorms. I’m glad we took advantage of the only hour of dry weather though. While out my dad and I got a double: my fish was my largest pike of the trip and my dads was his largest walleye. The pic of the pike didn’t really turnout too well but you can still get an idea. Luckily the camera decided to work when I snapped a pic of his walleye.

We have a great time going up every time we go. I recommend Uchi to anyone looking for an excellent walleye/pike lake that is run by an excellent staff.

Please enjoy the nature photos, my father has been practicing his photography skills.

img_5582a.jpgHi Judy,

Sheila and I visited during the last week of August, a few weeks later than the previous 2 times we’ve been here. Upon our arrival, which was delayed slightly due to fog, we were able to get in a couple of hours on the lake before meeting the ‘veterans’ at shore lunch.

Sheila mentioned to some of the folks that we had some luck with the northerns, but hadn’t located any walleyes.  One particular fellow, we’ll call Clyde (veterinarian, emergency medical tech, overall jack-of-all trades - you know who you are), img_5611a.jpgwent so far as to provide us with a couple of tinsel-skirted jig heads and detailed directions to one of his successful walleye spots. That afternoon we proceeded to catch one after another, mostly in the keeper size range of 15″ to 17″. Just when we thought we might call it a day, Sheila’s rod bent to the water line. What we thought to be an opportunist pike turned out to be a 27″ walleye, the largest catch of that week.

Clyde got a kick out of chiding us for using ‘his’ lures, and ‘his’ spot to catch what he had spent the previous few days searching for. The next day I managed to land a 24″ walleye. On our last day we decided to count fish. After less than 2 hours fishing in one spot we landed 49 walleyes. The pike weren’t hitting the top-water baits as eagerly as in the previous trips, but we still managed to bag a number of decent sized fish using spoons and spinners.

Overall, I would (and have continually) highly recommend Uchi to anyone looking for a place to catch quality fish. The numbers and sizes are both exceptional. The staff is among the friendliest and most attentive that you’ll find anywhere.

p8300222.jpgHi Judy,

I’m sure you’ve had four pairs of dads and their young sons on trips before, but I wanted to drop you an email and let you know how much we all enjoyed our trip last week.

As we were discussing around the campfire, one appealing item is that the boats are unguided.  In our case, when the boys got restless we could run over to a rock and let them roam for awhile.  Although they would tell you their favorite was when we would take p8300176.jpgthem exploring.  One day we went down to Uchi River at the southwest end of the lake.  We were fortunate enough to see a moose and we had fun checking out the old trappers cabin.

Another day we were just able to make it through the creek to Legg Lake.  That was even more fun to explore.

We can’t wait to come back.

Hi Tom

Judy,

I just wanted to say thank you for an excellent experience hunting at Uchi Lake Lodge. As you are aware, my party and I have hunted in Ontario for the past 3 years with another outfitter, and we researched your location thouroughly before agreeing to hunt with you. We can honestly say your lodge blew away the competition, and that our hunting trip was far better than we could have expected. The service of your guides, the food, the cabins, and of course, the wildlife at Uchi was better than we expected it to be. I would be happy to be a reference for you to anyone interested in considering your location for a moose hunt. After seeing over 22 moose in 4 days, compared to 2 - 3 moose over 7 days at the other 3 locations we hunted with other Ontario outfitters, anyone looking for a quality hunt should definately consider Uchi Lake. I have attached a few photos from our camera’s for you. Feel free to use them on your webpage if you would like.

Thanks Again
