Judy,
I have to tell you — you have the most pleasant guests I’ve ever come across. I told you last year how much time Bill Duran spent talking with me about your camp and the fishing. I also exchanged e-mails with Walt at the time, and he was also very helpful. I sent him an e-mail over the weekend to let him know that I was, in fact, going to Uchi this year and to thank him again for taking the time to share information with me. He responded by offering to e-mail or fax me a copy of a map of the lake marked with the spots where they did well. These guys are really sportsmen in the true sense of the word - just great guys. I’m really looking forward to seeing Bill next week. Looking forward to seeing you as well. Thanks for all your help leading up to our trip.
Roger
The evening of June 28, 2010, starting at 7:30 P.M. until 9:25 P.M., I caught a 34″ Pike, a 25″ Walleye, a 27.5″ Walleye, a 28″ Walleye and a 29″ Walleye, all on an orange roadrunner jig and minnow. The fish were incredibly fat! UCHI Lake is the best walleye lake ever!
Bill Marshall
Fish this morning and was windy, caught 20 walleye, and hooked a 26 inch walleye. After a great shorelunch with potatoe salad, went down to the south end of Uchi to fish. Ran into Bill Duran a veteran of Uchi, asked how the fishing was going. He said help yourself and fish this spot as he had caught several large ones with jig and minnow - I landed 29 1/2 inch walleye.
This being the biggest walleye I’ve caught, then started to run out of minnows so put a white twister tail on, then the very next cast landed a 28 inch walleye in the same hole.
So within 5 minutes, we landed safely a 29 1/2 inch walleye and a 28 inch walleye.
What a day - great day.
We’re back for the twelfth year: fishing, eating and laughing at Uchi! Judy continues to run a fun camp that we first came to because of good Canadian fishing and good food… and a bathroom! We keep coming back for those reasons, all the friends we have made … and new friends we meet every year. The weather is always changing and the fish are always moving…new hot spots change daily but with so many fish each trip out on the lake is a ball as is the adventure of traveling the river to fish Leg Lake… come give it a try… we’re looking forward to meeting you next year!
The two of us have had another fantastic week here at Uchi. The fishing was absolutely excellent. Today alone, the two of us caught 85 walleyes in the morning and afternoon. Today they preferred floating jig heads of various colors in 5 to 8 feet of water. Wednesday, when the two of us caught 100 walleye, they preferred Husky Jerks in 4 to 6 feet of water. Part of the great fun in fishing Uchi, is the fact that many different modes of fishing are successful. When you come to Uchi, be sure to bring a variety of different walleye catching tackle with you, because many different methods are successful, which makes it even more fun. The staff at Uchi are extremely helpful and provide a very high level of customer service. Great job to Judy, Bertha, Brenda, Richard and Larry!
Great morning - LARGE Walleye all morning on pink/orange 3/8 jig head with minnows.
29 1/2″ 8lb, 9oz walleye, 26 1/2 and several 24″.
Awesome fishing, always friendly staff and we’re all well fed!
Can’t believe it is our last day! The days have gone so fast and have been so much fun. Yesterday was great fun. We had a storm right at lunch time so we had lunch at the lodge and by then it let up and we were back out fishing. We caught 85 walleye yesterday with about 35 over 18 inches. Can’t wait to see what today brings!
Sean and I had a great week here in Uchi.
Sean caught 37 and 38 inch northerns. We had twelve walleye over 22 inches including 3 26″, and a 25″. As always the staff was great. Bertha kept us well fed and despite my attempt not to overeat, I think I gained 5 pounds. Can’t wait to get back next year.
Had a 40+ inch Northern pound a big Daredevil spoon. After a 15 minute fight, finally got to see the ugly beast. His front half would fit in the net, but his tail would flip him out and he would take off again every time. After getting him to the boat 5 times, he was obviously exhausted. My net man bent down to grab his mouth, but inexplicably grabbed the lure instead. What happened next was in slow motion…the fish shook once, flopped, and was free. So the biggest fish that I have ever caught never made it into the boat. Thanks Dad.
I’ve been rattling on and on about the wildlife at Uchi , more so than usual. It’s just that there is so much activity going on, I feel I have to share it with you. This is one of the most unique pictures I’ve seen of a cow moose with her baby - photographed by Dave Vaughn. The same Dave that released a 29 inch walleye yesterday, then his buddy a 45 inch northern.
The Castro party also had a 45 incher on their line but it got away before getting a picture. I’m still having trouble getting my guests to post their fishing reports as the days just fly by and we run out of time. Still trying, still trying and still trying……..
