I’ll start off by saying that we caught over 650 fish for the seven days, mostly walleye but plenty of northern, too. Most of the walleye came out of 12 to 25 feet of water, mostly on submerged humps or ridges, and mostly fishing vertical, almost right under the boat, with twister tails, spoons, and twister tails w/minnows. Our walleye ranged all sizes up to 7 pounds, most of them being in the 15 to 20 inch range. We had many #3, #4, and #5 pounders as well.
Most of our northern came from the same spots as the walleye, sometimes hitting our walleye as we brought them in. But we did find a few places shallow, (7 feet or less, weedy bays) that we could catch northern and walleye on jerk baits, a couple of the walleye in the 5 pound range. Our largest northern was probably #11 pounds, with many #8’s, #9’s, and #10’s, but most of those were at night.
The conditions during our trip (August 17-23) had the lake with plenty of water, mostly between 61 to 66 degrees, and not a lot of exposed weeds. We had a couple days of rain and wind, but the weather didn’t seem to affect the fishing adversely at all, even on the bright, clear days. At one point in the trip, we were sitting on one of our favorite spots, (a place we caught 80 fish on one day without moving the boat more than 30 feet) and watched another party barely a hundred and fifty yards away catching fish as consistently, sometimes more consistently, than us. it was amazing, so many fish. We had another great trip and want to thank you for your hospitality and the warmth and friendliness of the wonderful staff that took care of our every need! A truly wonderful experience. Have a great sport-show season and don’t work too hard.
